From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
